Grading Practices & Policies:

• Timing: I will always aim to have grades as up-to-date as possible. When entering larger, more complex assignments' scores (tests, projects, papers), please allow up to 2 weeks for grades to be current.
  
  
• Absenteeism/Late Work/Makeups: When students are absent and make up a homework assignments, quizzes, or tests, please allow some time for these grades to be entered. A routine makeup homework assignment may not be adjusted in the gradebook instantaneously online, but I have entered it in my paper gradebook and will enter this online as soon as time permits.
  
  
• Absences in X2 for assignments: If a student is absent on the date something is assigned or due, you should see a "code" where their grade would be: AA (absent when assigned) or AD (absent when due). Both of these calculate the grade as a zero, but when the assignment is made up (if done on time), the necessary adjustments will be made. • Blank Grades? Because I teach multiple sections of the same courses, the individual assignments "copy" into each section's gradebook. However, I may have graded & passed back an assignment for Period 3 and entered their grades, but have not done so for Period 1 (your child's class). Therefore, you'll see this assignment listed and in the grade area, there will be a BLANK score. If it's blank, there's no problem, the grades have simply not been added yet. If it's a ZERO, then the assignment wasn't done.
  
  
• Where are my child's graded assignments? I keep a folder/portfolio for each student in my classroom. All graded work is kept in this folder. Reasons: test security & the ability to look at the student's actual work and skills if there should ever be an inquiry about a students progress, skill level, challenges, etc. Conferences can be scheduled for further inquiry of a student's work.
  
  
• Questions about particular grades? I will not discuss individual assignment's grades over email. Email often leads to miscommunication and confusion when discussing grades. If you wish to discuss a grade and debrief an assignment, please email me to book a conference. Often times, if we meet, conferences would take place at 7:15 am before school.
