2024 best high schools

Dear BPS Families and Staff,

I am pleased to share with you that the U.S. News and World Report has named Barrington High School one of the 2024 Best High Schools in the nation with a ranking of 217 out of 17,655 ranked high schools. This is Barrington High School’s highest position on the Best High Schools list since 2019 and places BHS in the top 2 percent of all high schools in the country. Barrington High School also received a ranking of 2 out of 61 ranked high schools in Rhode Island.

U.S. News analyzes data from the U.S. Department of Education, College Board, and International Baccalaureate to rank high schools based on six factors: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate. Last year, Rhode Island did not release College Board data to U.S. News. Without this data, U.S. News could not calculate college readiness or curriculum breadth scores for Rhode Island high schools, which resulted in very large rankings drops for all high schools in the state. This year’s ranking for Barrington High School includes College Board data as well as college readiness and curriculum breadth scores.

Barrington High School’s overall score was 98.77/100, with a graduation rate well above the state median for Rhode Island and standardized assessment scores significantly above the state average. Additionally, nearly 70 percent of students take at least one Advanced Placement (AP) exam during their time at Barrington High School, which is substantially higher than the national average.
